91探花Professor Receives Engineer of the Year Award from IEEE Philadelphia Section

Singh Award Ceremony

Pritpal Singh, PhD, a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at 91探花University, has been honored as the 2025 Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year by the Philadelphia Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE is the world鈥檚 largest professional organization that promotes innovation and technical excellence to benefit society.聽

鈥淚t is a great honor to be recognized with this award,鈥 said Dr. Singh. 鈥淭here are many deserving engineers in the Delaware Valley, and to be selected as this year鈥檚 recipient is very humbling.鈥

Dr. Singh鈥檚 passion for engineering began at age 10 during a family visit to India. Hoping to listen to his grandmother鈥檚 radio, only to find it broken, he took it upon himself to open the device, discover a loose wire and successfully repair it.

鈥淚 subsequently built electronic circuits from kits and enjoyed it so much that I decided to become an electronics engineer,鈥 he said.

Now, with a career spanning four decades, Dr. Singh has made a lasting impact in the fields of electrical and computer engineering through his research and humanitarianism. Most recently, he contributed to the rural community of Bugarema, located in the Rumonge Province of Burundi. Partnering with Burundi local Chris Igiraneza and backed by the IEEE Humanitarian Technology Board Project, Dr. Singh assisted a woman-owned cooperative, Atelier De Couture Muryango, by supplying solar-powered electric systems, electric sewing machines, and digital literacy training for bookkeeping.

Additionally, his commitment to mentoring young engineers and fostering a collaborative environment has left a lasting impact on both the academic community and the engineering profession.

鈥淚 advise students to be passionate and work hard to achieve something in their fields of interest,鈥 said Dr. Singh. 鈥淭hese two attributes can lead to making meaningful contributions in the engineering field.鈥

With more than 4,000 members across the Delaware Valley, the IEEE Philadelphia Section supports the growth of electrical and computer engineering through scientific, educational and professional programs.
